Terms of service
Last updated October 27, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Hours Truly (“we”), which runs Hours Truly (“the service”). By creating an account you agree to them.
The service
Hours Truly lets you record your time, keep clients, expenses and mileage, and make, send and track invoices and quotes. It also gives estimates, such as of income tax, that are a guide only: they are not tax, accounting or legal advice, and you are responsible for what you file and charge.
Your account
- Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself. Turn on two-step sign-in if you can. You're responsible for what's done in your account.
- You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and use the service for your business.
Trial, price and payment
- A new account is free for 14 days; no card is needed to start.
- After that you choose a plan: CA$15 a month, CA$149 a year, or CA$249 for two years, plus GST/HST where it applies. Each is charged in advance to the card you give our payment processor, Stripe; we never see or keep your card number.
- Every plan renews by itself at the end of its term, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. For yearly and two-year plans, Stripe emails you before the renewal.
- You can cancel any time in Settings → Billing. It takes effect at the end of the term you've paid for (the month, year or two years), and you keep full use until then; we don't refund part of a term. You can switch plans there too.
- If a payment fails and isn't made good, or your trial ends without a subscription, your account becomes read-only: you can still sign in, see and download everything, but not change or send anything until you subscribe. We don't delete data because a payment was missed.
- We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before any price change.
Your data
- What you put in Hours Truly (your business details, clients, time, invoices, receipts) is yours. You give us only the permission we need to store it, show it to you, and send it where you tell us to (for example, emailing an invoice to your client).
- You can export everything at any time (Settings → Backups → Export everything).
- You're responsible for having the right to put your clients' details in the service and to email them.
- You can delete your account in Settings. It is removed for good 30 days later; until then you can change your mind. Backups that held it are gone within 30 days after that.
Acceptable use
Don't use the service to break the law, send spam or misleading invoices, get into other people's accounts or data, or interfere with the service. We may suspend an account that does, and will tell you why.
Availability and liability
- We work to keep the service running and your data safe, with daily backups, but we provide it “as is” and can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
- To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits), and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.
Changes and ending
- We may update these terms; for a change that matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect.
- You can stop using the service any time. We may end the service, giving you at least 60 days' notice to export your data.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and of Canada that apply there.
